Visualization is an indispensable part of driving, and lights play a vital role in this regard. In your car repair and maintenance practice, you need to understand different lamp types and their role in the car.

Each car must play a different role in order to be considered suitable for the road. In addition to visibility, they are also essential indicators, especially in the latter indicators, which help to protect the safety of other drivers on the road.

If you want to know more about lights, you are in the right place, because we will show you the different types of lights and their role in the car.

Lamp type

The headlamps

In the automotive lighting system, headlights are the most famous and equally important to drivers. They appear in pairs and are located in the front area of the car, but in other models, they may be four for decorative purposes or brand logo. Headlights play a vital role in lighting, especially in dark conditions, so that the driver can see the road ahead.

There are two types of car headlights; Low beam and high beam. Low beam lamps provide sufficient lateral and forward lighting. On the other hand, the high beam lamp provides a central light distribution and is not controlled by glare. It is very suitable for roads without visible traffic.

Taillight

As their name implies, the tail lights are located at the rear of the car and emit red light. They work in conjunction with the headlamps, so when the headlamps are on, they also come on. Their main purpose is to let drivers know that there is a car in front of them and how far it is.

Fog lamp

The fog lamp can help the driver to see in case of fog. You will find this type of lamp under the headlamp, which emits a wide beam with a sharp cut-off point to prevent the light from refracting from the fog and stabbing the driver back. They usually work when the headlights are not working well, especially when there is too much fog.

Daytime running lights

Daytime running lights are located at the front and rear of the vehicle. They will turn on automatically when the vehicle is running or the handbrake is lowered. Their main purpose is to help other road users notice vehicles, although they may be distracting. Some models can choose to turn them off.

Signal lamp

Signal light is very important in driving, which can be carried out through turn signal light or flash lamp. You will find them in the front and rear of the car next to the headlights and taillights. You activate these lights to signal other drivers that you are turning and indicate the direction you are taking. They play an important role in communicating with other drivers on the road.

Stoplight

At the rear of the car, one side of the tail light is the brake light. As their name implies, when you turn on the brakes, they turn on and signal other drivers that you are slowing down. Although they are not easy to misuse, you should properly maintain them to prevent them from burning occasionally.

Hazard lights

Hazard lights are flashers at the front and rear of the car. You must turn them on manually in case of danger. You press the danger button on the instrument panel to remind other drivers that your car is not in optimal driving condition, for example, there is a problem with your alternator.

Stop lamp

Stop lights are also located at the front and rear of the car. The front is white or amber and the back is red. They should be visible within 500 feet and you should use them when parking. In most states, it is illegal to drive with a stop light on.

Interior lights

Interior lights are interior lights that help illuminate the interior of the vehicle. You shouldn't use them for a long time, especially when driving, because they will affect your judgment.

Other types of lamps

Lamps come from bulbs. There are different types of automobile bulbs. The common ones are led lamps, halogen lamps and xenon lamps. Let's look at these types.

LED light

LED light is the standard configuration of modern vehicles or vehicles with after-sales market adjustment. The main purpose of LED lights is decoration, mainly in the headlamp area. They make the front of the car look clearer. In addition to being less likely to heat up, they are also energy efficient. This makes them durable and easy to maintain.

Some nurses will install this type of lights on the body and even on the wheels to make the car stand out.

Halogen lamp

Halogen lamp is the standard lamp of most vehicles. The combination of nitrogen and argon is used in the tube with tungsten wire to heat and produce light. Despite the problem of overheating, they are cheap and easy to maintain.

xenon

Xenon lamps also use high intensity discharge (HID) lamps. They produce light by heating gases and metals, and their working mode is almost similar to that of halogen lamps. The main difference is that they use rare metals to light up.

They produce more light than halogen lamps with the same wattage. They are not common due to the high cost of rare metals and their uncontrolled glare.
